Argentina substitutes: Franco Armani, Agustin Marchesin, Leonardo Balerdi, German Pezzella, Roberto Pereyra, Joaquin Correa, Nicolas Dominguez, Jorge Figal, Lucas Alario, Guido Rodriguez, Paulo Dybala, Manuel Lanzini, Federico Zaracho, Adolfo Gaich.
Mexico substitutes: Rodolfo Cota, Hugo Gonzalez, Jonathan Orozco, Hector Moreno, Fernando Navarro, Diego Reyes, Jorge Sanchez, Luis Montes, Orbelin Pineda, Carlos Rodriguez, Roberto Alvarado, Uriel Antuna, Marco Fabian, Javier Hernandez, Alexis Vega.
Mexico make seven changes off the back of their 3-0 victory against the United States last time out. Sanchez Reyes Moreno, Rodriguez, Guardado, Hernandez, and Alvarado all lose their spots in the team, while Layun, Salcedo, Araujo, Alvarez, Dos Santos, Jimenez, and Lozano all come into the XI.
Both teams are lined up on the pitch while the national anthems ring around the Alamodome. Not long to go now!
Well, that got out of hand relatively quickly! Mexico started well, and still hold the lead in possession (66.9 per cent), but Argentina have been lethal just about every time they've driven into the opposing penalty area. Things got going in the 17th minute when Lautaro Martinez buried a chance into the bottom right corner of goal. Then, just five minutes later, Martinez got back on the score sheet after a favourable bounce on a counter-attack. Surprisingly, when a penalty was earned in the 33rd minute, it was Paredes who stepped up to take it, not Martinez, but the former managed to score it despite Ochoa getting a hand to it. Martinez did manage to get his hat-trick in the 39th minute though when a poor touch from Araujo in the box allowed the striker to run onto the ball and slot it between the legs of Ochoa. Linking all of these goals though have been poor, sloppy mistakes from Mexico at the back... with Aruajo the worst offender. Too much damage has likely already been done for Mexico to get back in this match, but they will certainly be hoping for a bit more composure at the back in the final 45 minutes.
With the match all but settled, it will be interesting to see how these sides adjust in the second half. Argentina have already been playing a fairly heavily rotated side so will they bring on more of the kids, or could things get even worse for Mexico with the potential entrance of Dybala or Correa? As for El Tri, this match is likely over so they could well bring some of their key players off to protect them for the latter stages of this match.
That will do it for our live coverage of this friendly between Argentina and Mexico! We hope you enjoyed following along, and will join us again soon!
As for what's coming for these sides, Argentina will face Germany in a friendly on October 9th, while Mexico will hope to put this loss behind them ahead of their next friendly match with Trinidad and Tobago.
