We're underway at Stamford Bridge.
Good afternoon and welcome to the live commentary of the Premier League clash between Chelsea and Tottenham at Stamford Bridge.
Jose Mourinho returns to Stamford Bridge in a bid to get one over on one of his former employers. Tottenham have been hit hard with injuries, which has seen Son Heung-min joing Harry Kane on the sidelines. It played a huge role in their 1-0 defeat to RB Leipzig during the week in the first leg of their round of 16 Champions League clash, which ended a run of three-straight wins in all competitions. The Portuguese needs to galvanise his team for a match that could define the rest of their campaign.
CHELSEA (3-4-3): Willy Caballero; Cesar Azpilicueta, Andreas Christensen, Antonio Rudiger; Reece James, Jorginho, Mateo Kovacic, Marcos Alonso; Ross Barkley, Mason Mount; Olivier Giroud.
CHELSEA SUBS: Kepa Arrizabalaga, Tammy Abraham, Willian, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Kurt Zouma, Emerson, Billy Gilmour.
TOTTENHAM (3-5-2): Hugo Lloris; Davinson Sanchez, Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen; Japhet Tanganga, Tanguy Ndombele, Harry Winks, Giovani Lo Celso, Ben Davies; Lucas Moura, Steven Bergwijn.
TOTTENHAM SUBS: Erik Lamela, Eric Dier, Dele Alli, Paulo Gazzaniga, Serge Aurier, Oliver Skipp, Gedson Fernandes.
This match could hold the key in the battle for the final Champions League spot this term, although Manchester City's fate could open up fifth spot for qualification to Europe's leading competition. Chelsea hold a one-point lead over Tottenham in fourth place, but their form has been shaky to say the least since the New Year, especially on home soil. The Blues have won only one out of their last five matches at Stamford Bridge, which has included three defeats - notably their 2-0 loss to Manchester United last time out. Frank Lampard and his team need to get back to winning ways this afternoon to get back on track.
Spurs will rue one defensive lapse for being behind as Toby Alderweireld allowed Giroud to break in behind far too easily. There was a time when they were well on truly on the back foot, although they showed resilence to carve out a couple of good openings in the final third. It's not over for the visitors yet, but they have to be more clinical in the final third.
Chelsea are next in action against Bayern Munich in the first leg of their Champions League round-of-16 clash at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday. Tottenham next face Wolves at home next Sunday in the Premier League.
Thanks for joining our commentary this afternoon. Until next time, goodbye.
