FULL-TIME: SOUTHAMPTON 0-1 NEWCASTLE.
90' +1
The fourth official indicates four additional minutes will be played at the end of the 90 for stoppages.
90'
Joelinton gets yellow.
Joelinton is booked for kicking the ball away following the referee’s call for a free-kick to Southampton. He’s looking to take some time off the clock, but he’s also earned a yellow.
89'
Saint-Maximin has taken it upon himself to dribble around anyone who comes to close him down, beating three Southampton challengers before finding Rose in space. He's an incredible dribbler, and the match-winner at this point.
87'
Southampton are pushing for a goal that will bring them level, but sloppy passing in midfield returns the ball to Newcastle and allows them to waste precious seconds knocking it about in defence.
85'
M. Obafemi enters the game and replaces S. Boufal.
Hasenhuttl must now search for the equaliser as Obafemi replaces Boufal.
79'
A. Saint-Maximin has scored a goal for Newcastle United!
S. Longstaff enters the game and replaces I. Hayden.
SAINT-MAXIMIN BREAKS THE DEADLOCK! 1-0 NEWCASTLE! A pass hit from right to left looks a wasted opportunity as Valery picks it up on the edge of his penalty area, but gets immediately dispossessed by Saint-Maximin, who bursts inside the penalty area and neatly pokes it home!
Sean Longstaff replaces Hayden as Newcastle have 10 minutes left to win the match.
77'
C. Adams enters the game and replaces S. Long.
Southampton’s first change of the match gives Long a chance to catch his breath as he’s worked tirelessly today. Adams is on in his place.
72'
V. Lazaro enters the game and replaces Javier Manquillo.
Bruce’s second change is on the wing as Manquillo is replaced by Lazaro - currently on-loan at Newcastle from Inter.
69'
Southampton are keeping all 10 minutes behind the ball in an effort to overcome wave after wave of Newcastle pressure. The Magpies midfield and attack have been somewhat disjointed despite the quality of Shelvey’s passing, with every attack being funnelled through him.

Description
67'
The pace of the match has slowed down quite a bit, much to Hasenhuttl’s pleasure as he knows his side have little over 20 minutes to hold on for what would be a good point given the circumstances. With all three changes still in-hand, the hosts are in a positive position despite their numerical disadvantage.
65'
Gayle pushes Saint-Maximin ahead with a leading pass towards the penalty area, but Bertrand’s excellent defensive work wins him the ball cleanly inside the 18-yard box.
63'
Joelinton has come in and slotted into the left-wing position, though presumably, he’ll look to pair with Gayle in attack with Almiron supporting just behind them.
61'
Joelinton enters the game and replaces M. Ritchie.
Bruce makes his first change on the hour as Ritchie is recalled to the bench in favour of Joelinton as Newcastle continue to search for the opener.
58'
Dubravka rushes out of his goal to get to the ball before Ings, with the two clattering into each other in an unfortunate but unavoidable collision. The goalkeeper remains down on the pitch receiving treatment to his knee.
56'
M. Ritchie gets yellow.
Ritchie’s disappointing match continues as he’s booked for wrestling Hojbjerg down in midfield following a misplaced pass from Shelvey.
55'
Ritchie’s curling corner bends around the first man and finds Hayden, but touch-tight marking from Stephens forces the Newcastle header wide of the mark.
53'
Ritchie stands over a free-kick just outside the Southampton penalty area on the left after Boufal’s push on Saint-Maximin, but the ball is left hanging for Stephens, whose diving defensive header clears the area.
51'
Hojbjerg delivers a disguised pass through the Newcastle defence into the penalty area for Long, who decides to have an off-balance shot instead of squaring it for a team-mate - the effort flying harmlessly wide.
50'
Ritchie delivers a corner to the edge of the six-yard box, but McCarthy steps off his line and confidently makes the leaping claim - plucking the ball out of the air.
48'
No changes at half-time as both managers are happy to continue the second 45 in the same vein as the first. With enough attacking intent already on the pitch, Bruce is perhaps hoping his XI can sort out the job themselves.
46'
Southampton get the match restarted from the kick-off!
45' +4
HALF-TIME: SOUTHAMPTON 0-0 NEWCASTLE.
45' +3
Javier Manquillo gets yellow.
Bertrand goes into a slide to win the ball before Manquillo, who also goes into a sliding challenge. The Newcastle full-back pulls out of the tackle half-heartedly and hits Bertrand in the chest with his studs. The supporters chant for VAR, but it's just a yellow.
45' +2
The fourth official indicates three additional minutes will be added for stoppages.
45'
Penalty saved by A. McCarthy!
Ritchie steps up and takes the penalty confidently, but he’s unable to beat the goalkeeper with a well-taken spot-kick as MacCarthy is too quick to his left.
MCCARTHY SAVES THE PENALTY! UNBELIEVABLE SCENES! Ritchie steps up and hits his penalty low and hard to the right, but the Southampton goalkeeper has been in incredible form today and he’s kept that going with a massive save on the spot-kick!
39'
Ings lets his frustration show as he shoves Manquillo over down the right during a physical duel. The free-kick is taken quickly to get play restarted in an effort to take the lead before the half, as the hosts are on the back foot.
35'
Gayle shifts the ball to his left for Almiron, but gets tugged back after releasing his pass - winning a free-kick just outside the Southampton penalty area.
31'
The sending off will definitely open up the match and encourage the visitors to come forward and attack. The result will depend on how well Southampton can hold their shape, offering support and chasing the man in possession.
28'
M. Djenepo goes off after a red card!
IT'S A RED! Southampton are down to 10 men after Djenepo’s yellow card is deemed not punishment enough for the infringement. After taking a look at the monitor, the referee has changed his decision and given the winger his marching orders.
24'
Valery forces Saint-Maximin to do some defending around his own penalty area, but he fails the assignment as the Southampton right-back cuts inside and fires a left-footed shot which Dubravka catches without bother.
22'
Long tees it up for Boufal on the right, who curls a delightful left-footed cross to the far post looking for Djenepo, but it goes over the head of the winger and into the possession of Manquillo.
18'
Valery offers his services down the right, floating a cross to the far post for Ings, but Fernandez is in the right place to head the ball away. Saint-Maximin looks to counter at pace, but Ward-Prowse tracks back and makes a firm but fair challenge to win back the ball.
16'
Saint-Maximin attempts to take Valery on once again, but the Southampton defence is quick to offer support on their right in an effort to stop the supply. The tricky winger will have to pull out all the stops in order to support Gayle and Almiron, as he seems to be the focus of Hasenhuttl’s defensive plan.
14'
Southampton look to build from a throw in a dangerous position, but the industrious Ritchie forces himself into the action and wins the ball back, though out of options he’s forced to hit it down the pitch aimlessly.
12'
Southampton have looked the more positive in the opening 10 minutes, but Bruce will still be asking how his side aren’t ahead after that golden opportunity minutes ago. The Magpies are in quite an unfortunate spell, not having scored in a Premier League fixture in four matches.
10'
Boufal receives the ball with space in midfield and drives towards goal, cutting inside to enter the penalty area on the left but he's dispossessed by Manquillo from a prone position after slipping on the turf! Excellent yet unorthodox defending!
7'
Saint-Maximin gets the away support on their feet with a darting run past Boufal, but Valery comes across to double-team the winger and block his eventual delivery.
5'
Bruce won’t be happy that his side have conceded a number of early set-pieces as both Bertrand and Ward-Prowse are excellent deliverers of a dead ball.
3'
Ward-Prowse sends the delivery to the near post, but Shelvey is on the spot to make the headed clearance, putting it out for a corner.
2'
Rose gives away an early free-kick after a mistimed challenge on Boufal, providing Southampton with an early chance to challenge Dubravka.
1'

With 15 minutes to go before kick-off, let's take a look at how the two sides will line up - starting with the hosts!
A win over West Brom on Tuesday secured Newcastle’s first FA Cup quarter-final since 2006; positive momentum they will be looking to take into their fixture against Saints. Winless in the Premier League since a 1-0 over Chelsea in January, the visitors sit just two points below their hosts with 10 matches remaining.
Hello and welcome to our LIVE commentary of the Premier League commentary between Southampton and Newcastle!
Saints welcome Newcastle to St. Mary’s with both clubs comfortably above the relegation zone, however, the home form table doesn’t paint a picture of a club in the ascendancy. Losers in four of their last five matches in all competitions, Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side could go joint-10th with a win today, should they register their first win over the Magpies since 2016.
That concludes our commentary of the Premier League fixture between Southampton and Newcastle! We hope you enjoyed it!
Southampton will look for their next win in a week’s time when they travel to face Norwich. Newcastle also play again next Saturday, when they host Sheffield United.
With the three points there for the taking, Bruce will have to be positive in his substitutions. His side need an injection of confidence after being thoroughly and comprehensively denied by McCarthy in the first half, with Joelinton and the speed of Yedlin on offer from the bench. Hasenhuttl will look to keep things compact and look to keep a clean sheet in hopes of nicking a result. Look for Romeu to enter midfield in order to stiffen it up, with the pace of Obafemi to cause Newcastle’s defenders problems with his fresh legs late on.
